Kathy Smith

President & Senior Partner

Kathy has over 15 years of progressive HR experience in all HR practices.  Prior to launching HR Service Team, Kathy was a Senior HR Director providing strategy, direction and oversight for a multinational, publicly traded technology company.

“I did not start my career in HR but worked as a Program Manager in the defense industry. I have a BS degree in Business and Master of Arts in Industrial Relations (MAIR) from the Carlson School of Management – University of Minnesota.  My desire to be a business partner implementing HR Best Practices supporting both employees and the company drew me to a Human Resources career. Obtaining my MAIR deepened and enhanced my business competencies. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I have a passion for Human Resources.

I have worked in every area of Human Resources from creating a new HR department to managing an expatriate compensation program.  I enjoy every aspect of the Human Resource function.

KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME:

“I love creating new ideas and driving results. I will go beyond the call of duty to help someone.”

Nate Smith

Principal

Nate has a background in heavy manufacturing. After finishing school at Dunwoody, Nate worked in three different manufacturing environments that all have one common thread – transportation. It is hard to roll out insurance plans in a manufacturing setting – Nate figured there had to be a better way, so he obtained his Minnesota producer’s license so he could help companies improve the process. He understands how insurance affects companies and employees in a manufacturing setting.

“I enjoy the strategic aspects of putting together a benefit plan. It gives me the same kind of satisfaction that putting together a car engine does. All the pieces have to fit to make it work.”

KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME:

“I drive for results and customer satisfaction. When I am not building a benefit plan I will be building/rebuilding some sort of machinery or doing construction on my home.”

Kathryn Swanson

Principal

Kathryn has a background in biology and Spanish and Portuguese.  She is particularly interested in finding the right health plan that fits the needs of the employer and their employees.  Understanding the details of a health plan can be confusing. Kathryn’s background in biology helps her understand these details and communicate them in a way that is easy to understand.  In addition to her background in biology Kathryn is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese and can help explain health plan options to employees whose first language isn’t English.

KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT ME:

“I love synthesizing complex information and explaining it in a way that everyone can understand.  I take the time to answer people’s questions so that at the end of the day they are satisfied with their choices.”
